What do Beavers wear?
What do Beavers wear?
When your child first joins 1st Cheriton Beavers, there's no need to buy a uniform straight away. For their first few taster sessions, comfortable clothes suitable for games, crafts and activities are absolutely fine.
Once your child has decided to continue with Beavers, they'll need their Beaver uniform for regular meetings and certain events.
Beaver Uniform
Our Beaver uniform consists of:
Turquoise Beaver sweatshirt
Scout neckerchief and woggle
Plain dark blue or black trousers, shorts or activity trousers
Uniform should normally be worn to weekly meetings and other occasions when specified by the leaders.
We provide your child's neckerchief and badges as part of joining, but replacement items may incur an additional charge.
There are also optional uniform items and accessories available, such as hats, hoodies and other clothing.
Footwear and Outdoor Clothing
Beavers enjoy a mixture of indoor and outdoor activities, so suitable clothing is important.
For regular meetings
Comfortable, practical clothing and sturdy trainers are usually suitable.
For walks and outdoor adventures
Walking shoes or walking boots can provide extra support and protection where appropriate. Strong, sturdy trainers may be suitable for some activities.
For wet or cold weather
Please send your child with a waterproof coat, warm layers and suitable outdoor clothing. Hats, gloves and other seasonal items may also be useful.
For camps and special activities
Any additional clothing or equipment requirements will be shared with parents through Online Scout Manager (OSM).
We understand that not every family will have specialist outdoor clothing. Please speak to us if you need advice about what is suitable.
Where can I buy uniform?
Please check each retailer's current website for availability, sizing and delivery information.
Second-Hand Uniform and Financial Support
Uniform doesn't have to be expensive! Good-quality pre-loved uniform is a great way to save money, and there are several places you can look for second-hand items.
You could try:
eBay – search for Beaver Scout uniform and turquoise sweatshirts.
Vinted – look for pre-loved Scout clothing and uniform.
Local second-hand shops or community selling groups.
Asking us directly, as we may have some donated uniform available.
When buying online, remember to check the size, condition and postage costs before purchasing.
Please speak to us if the cost of uniform or outdoor clothing is a concern. We'll do our best to discuss what help may be available.
We want every Beaver to feel comfortable, included and ready to take part in our activities.
A few helpful reminders
Please label all clothing and belongings clearly with your child's name.
Check that your child has suitable clothing for the weather.
Follow any additional clothing instructions sent through OSM for particular activities and events.
We can't guarantee that lost belongings will be recovered, so labelling everything helps us return misplaced items to their owners!
